San Francisco Conference and the End of UNIO

First Secretary-General Trygve Lie Speaking at San Francisco, 1945

UNIO briefly existed alongside the UN after its founding (as the below photographs of the San Francisco Conference found in its archive attest). However, with its mission accomplished, UNIO liquidated by the end of 1945, its functions taken up by the newly created Department of Public Information (DPI). Today, the Department of Global Communications (DGC), can be said to be direct descendant of this first predecessor organization of the United Nations and continues to do the work first pioneered by UNIO.
